16 Data of Developing World 6 billion people in the world ¾ of this number live in the developing world Nearly 2/3 of developing countries lack adequate sanitation (this being even a pit in the ground that can be covered)

17 There are 960 million illiterate adults in the world, 2/3 of them are women. The three richest people in the world have assets that together exceed the combined gross domestic product of the 48 least-developed nations. 1/3 of people in the developing world do not have access to clean water.

18 An average American's environmental impact is 30 to 50 times that of the average citizen of a developing country such as India. More than 840 million people in the world are malnourished—799 million of them are from the developing world. The number of children out of school around the world is more than the number of children in school in the U.S.
