2 The Constitution requires that the president must:  Be thirty-five years old.  Have lived in the U.S. for a least 14 years.  Be a natural-born citizen.

3 Term of Office  Four years  Begins on January 20 th after the election at noon.  22 nd Amendment limits presidents to two four-year terms or a total of ten years in office.

4 Chief of State  The President the symbolic head of our nation. He is the symbol of the American people. Chief Executive  The President has the executive power. He is in charge of enforcing all laws. Who helps him do this?

5 Chief Diplomat  The President is our chief spokesperson to the rest of the world. He is the architect of U.S. foreign policy. He writes treaties. Commander in Chief  The President is the top commander of the armed forces. Can he start a war?

6 Chief Lawmaker  The President has the most influence over the laws passed by Congress. He is the architect of the nation’s public policy.  Veto  State of the Union speech Chief Administrator  The President is the CEO of a “company” that employs over 3 million people.

7 Chief of Party  The President is the leader of his political party. President Obama’s party? Chief Citizen  The President and his family are expected to be a role models to Americans. He is the “representative of all the people
