1 Pick up one piece of paper and one pencil. Write your first and last name, today’s date, and the period you have civics in the upper-right hand corner of the paper. Title the paper “The Preamble to the United States Constitution”. Number your paper from one to nine, but skip two spaces between each line. Please do not write on the back of the paper. Happy Constitution Day!

2 - by the end of this lesson: you should be able to define mission statement you should be able to identify the mission statement of the United States Constitution

3 On your paper, you will need to write the nine lines of the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution. You should have numbered your paper from 1 to 9, skipping two spaces between each number. You will need that space later! I will read and reread the Preamble. It will also be on the board. You must write the Preamble on your paper. When you are done writing, read the Preamble out loud until everyone is reciting it.

We the People of the United States, 2. in Order to form a more perfect Union, 3. establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, 4. provide for the common defense, 5. promote the general Welfare, 6. and secure the Blessings of Liberty 7. to ourselves and our Posterity, 8. do ordain and establish 9. this Constitution for the United States of America.

8 do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. The people have created and agreed to follow this new plan of government, the Constitution. and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, make sure that freedom and liberty is around today for our descendants

9 On the back of your Preamble page, write the title “02 917 WRITING PROMPT”. Put your name on the back of the paper, as well, please. Write a well-crafted informative response. Well-crafted means that your sentences fit together instead of jumping around. Informative means facts should come from the documents; your opinions are not required. Response means you answer the prompt; don’t just write what you feel like writing.
