4. The NCAA is the Path to the Collegiate Athlete Experience
Students are responsible for becoming NCAA certified.
While the school counseling office plays a part in NCAA certification, it is ultimately the job of the student to register and maintain eligibility status. The NCAA Clearinghouse is the means to eligibility.

5. Who Needs to Register With the Eligibility Center?
Student-athletes must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center to be eligible to play NCAA Division I or II sports in college. Athletes playing in Division III do not have to register.
Students should register at the beginning of their junior year of high school, according to the NCAA. No student can be awarded athletic scholarships until they are cleared by the NCAA.

6. NCAA Requirements Graduate from high school
Earn a minimum ACT or SAT score
Earn minimum grades in required classes
Requirements differ slightly from Division I and Division II
New requirements will be enforced for students graduating in 2016 and beyond.

9. Selecting High School Courses
More often than not, athletes are not turned away from Division I or Division II scholarships because of ACT scores-but because of incomplete transcripts or a shortage of required high school courses.
Selecting high school courses is extremely important in becoming and maintaining NCAA eligibility.

10. NCAA Academic Standards
All WBHS students who want to compete athletically at a Division I or Division II school must meet the following requirements:
Graduate from high school.
Complete a minimum of 16 core courses.
Earn a minimum required grade-point average in core courses.
Earn a qualifying test score on either the ACT or SAT.
Request final amateurism certification from the NCAA Eligibility Center.
For Division I student-athletes who will enroll in August 1, 2016 and later, the requirements to compete in the first year will change. In addition to the above standards, students must:
Earn at least a 2.3 grade-point average in core courses.
Meet an increased sliding-scale standard (for example, an SAT score of 820 requires a 2.5 high school core course GPA)
Successfully complete 10 of the 16 total required core courses before the start of their seventh semester in high school. Seven of the 10 courses must be successfully completed in English, math and science.

11. NCAA Sliding Scale
Each student can check their ACT/SAT scores against their high school GPA to determine eligibility. To see the complete sliding scale, visit

12. Testing and Scores
Refer to the NCAA sliding scale to match test score requirements to high school GPA.
The ACT is a sum of the English, mathematics, science, and reading sections of the test.
The SAT includes only critical reading and math sections.
Test scores MUST be reported directly from the test. Use code 9999 each time students test to send scores directly.

13. Transcripts
Students must request the transmission of official transcripts to the NCAA Eligibility Center. WBHS uses Parchment.com to send all academic transcripts.
Transcripts will be sent twice: when six semesters have been completed, and upon graduation.
Remember: it is the responsibility of the student to ensure transcripts have been sent via Parchment.com.
