Ratio, Rate, Proportion, and Percent
Ratio Comparison of two numbers by division Can be written three different ways 4 to 9 4 : 9 4 9
Rate A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units. 120 miles 3 hours
Unit Rate A rate with a denominator of 1. If 120 miles, then the unit rate is 40 Miles 3 Hours 1 Hour When you want to find unit rate you divide
Proportion Two equal ratios. 2 = 4 3 6
Solving Proportions Cross Multiply then Divide 7 = 14 4 n 14 4 = 56 56 ÷ 7 = 8 N = 8
Are these True Proportions? 8 = 12 12 8 Check the cross products 8 8 = 64 12 12 = 144 64 does not equal 144, therefore the proportions are not equal
Is the proportion true? 2 = 5 10 25 Check the cross products 10 5 = 50 2 25 = 50 The proportion is true!
Percent A ratio that compares a number to 100. 50 is 50% 100
3-5 Write Ratios & Proportions
Ratio Lesson 4-1 and Proportion.
Ratios Rates and Unit Rate
Proportions, Ratio, Rate and Unit Rate Review
Ratios and Unit Rates Lesson 6-1 & 6-2.
Understanding Proportion. Ratio A ratio is the comparison of two numbers by division. A classroom has 16 boys and 12 girls. Also written as16 boys, 16:12.
Chapter 5 Ratios, Rates, Proportions
EXAMPLE 2 Using the Cross Products Property = 40.8 m Write original proportion. Cross products property Multiply. 6.8m 6.8 = Divide.
2.5 Solving Proportions Write and use ratios, rates, and unit rates. Write and solve proportions.
Using Cross Products Lesson 6-4. Cross Products When you have a proportion (two equal ratios), then you have equivalent cross products. Find the cross.
+ Cross Multiplication Objective: We will learn to use cross multiplication to solve a proportion. We will use cross multiplication to check whether two.
Finding a Percent of a Number Lesson 6-7. Using a Proportion Set up a proportion that uses the percent over 100. Cross multiply to write an equation.
Lesson 4-1 Ratio and Proportion
ratio percent Write fractions as percents and percents as fractions.
* A ratio is a comparison of two quantities by division. Ratios like 1 out of 2 can be written as 1:2, ½, or 1 to 2. * When ratios compare a number to.
PERCENT PROPORTIONS Using Proportions 4-1. Vocabulary Review Ratio: The comparison of two numbers (written in Algebra as a fraction) Proportion: When.
Fractions, Decimals, and Percents. Percents as Decimals To write a percent as a decimal, divide by 100 and remove the percent symbol. Example 1: 63% 63.
