3 Task There comes a time when all young people have to take that leap into adulthood. In this unit students will prepare for this monumental dive by going through the process of “getting” a job.

4 What am I going to do for the rest of my life? Think about activities you like do your abilities where you like to work: inside/outside/on the moon Choose a career that matches you personally and incorporates your thoughts to the above bullets

5 Assessment You will write an essay addressing: What is the career that you have chosen? Why did you choose this career? What do you think that it will take to get a job in this field?

6 How do I become a _____? You will: meet with the guidance counselor to discuss the career process search the Internet to find the following information: education and/or training needed average annual salary job forecast availability of jobs for this career

7 Assessment You will: Complete the research survey for your career Use the information from your survey to create a résumé using either: A résumé template in Word The résumé wizard in Word

8 Where can I find a job?!!! You will: Choose an area where you would like to live Use the Internet to do a job search for openings in the geographic area of your choice

9 Assessment You will: Choose a job where the requirements match the qualifications in your résumé Read several sample letters of application Write a letter of application “applying for the job”

10 What do I do now? You will: Brainstorm with other students to decide what is said during a telephone conversation to schedule an appointment Practice calling for an appointment with a partner

11 Assessment You will: “call” the contact person for the job (the teacher) schedule an interview

12 How do I prepare for a job interview? You will: Brainstorm with other students to decide what might be asked during a job interview Research on the Internet for the top questions asked during an interview Prepare answers to possible questions

13 Assessment You will: Collaborate with other students in class to create a rubric for practice interviews Do two practice interviews with other students

14 It’s the big day!!! You will: Report to your interview dressed appropriately for your chosen career Participate in a formal interview Act in a professional manner Use only Spanish

15 Reflection You will: Think about the information acquired in your research Reflect on whether or not you are willing to do what is required for the career Reflect on what went right and wrong during your interview Write a reflective essay addressing the above thoughts
