There are many misconceptions about who is most likely to be a victim of identity theft. Some imagine that people of certain ages or social standing are more likely to become a victim.

However, if we look at the complaints filed with the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Sentinel Network in 2014, you can see that complaints were filed by people in all age groups.
Of the complaints that included the age of the victim, 18% were between age 20 and 29. What’s more, it may be that some of these victims in their 20s may have actually been victims of identity theft as children, but they did not discover the problem until they were in their early 20s.
The actual number of victims is very likely higher in all age groups, because not all victims choose to file a complaint.

There is a lot brokers and employers can do to help protect employees. First, offer voluntary ID theft benefits that address all five types of ID Theft.
