Synthetic Using multiple victims’ ID or information to create another identity. Many people don’t realize that identity theft is more than just credit card theft. It includes…

5 The impact on workers Identity theft is the #1 consumer complaint filed with the Federal Trade Commission for 15 consecutive years FTC 2014 Consumer Sentinel Network Data Book There are many misconceptions about who is most likely to be a victim of identity theft. Some imagine that people of certain ages or social standing are more likely to become a victim.

Of the complaints that included the age of the victim, 18% were between age 20 and 29. What’s more, it may be that some of these victims in their 20s may have actually been victims of identity theft as children, but they did not discover the problem until they were in their early 20s. The actual number of victims is very likely higher in all age groups, because not all victims choose to file a complaint. 8 HOW EMPLOYERS CAN HELP Offer identity theft protection that includes:
Protection for all five major types of identity theft Consultation with consumer financial experts Identity restoration with a licensed private investigator Host “Lunch and Learn” programs at the employer site to educate workers Publish articles about identity theft in your employee communications James There is a lot brokers and employers can do to help protect employees. First, offer voluntary ID theft benefits that address all five types of ID Theft. Make sure employees have access to good information on how they can protect themselves and their families, and make sure benefits include identity restoration with a licensed private investigator. Also consider having educational sessions on-site for your employees, and include information employees can use to protect themselves

9 THE BUSINESS BENEFITS Great benefits at no cost to employer
4/24/2017 6:47:11 AM Great benefits at no cost to employer Less unplanned down time, fewer distracted employees Higher employee retention and satisfaction The great thing about identity theft protection as a voluntary benefit is that it does not have to cost the employer anything, and yet has many benefits for the business. Employees are less distracted and able to focus on the job. They are also happier and more loyal. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the average ID theft victim spends $1000 and 175 hours trying to resolve identity theft issues. Since courts, financial institutions and most businesses are open during business hours, employees often take unplanned time off from work or take care of personal business during work hours. Source: For victims for medical ID fraud, the challenge to restore their good names is even more daunting. Victims of medical identity theft can suffer significant financial consequences. Sixty-five percent of medical identity theft victims in a Ponemon Institute study [ had to pay an average of $13,500 to resolve the crime. In some cases, they paid the healthcare provider, repaid the insurer for services obtained by the thief, or they engaged an identity service provider or legal counsel to help resolve the incident and prevent future fraud.
