The Book of Proverbs Chapter 3 Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your Heart, Pt. 3

II. Hindrances to Total (100%) Trust or Faith in the Lord.

A. Dread or Fear. Num 13:32-14:4 Fear leads to wanting to return to some form of prior, false security.

B. Delay or Hesitancy Ex 4:1, “Then Moses said, ‘What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you’.’”

Instead of saying, “Ok Lord, Your will be done”, your attention is focused on the problem.

The opinions of opposition are irrelevant to the Lord, and should be to you too.

Doubt, fear and disbelief lead to hesitation.

Delay or hesitancy rob us of opportunities that are here today but gone tomorrow.

We need to push through all the distractions and resistance and move ahead. Phil 3:13b-14, “Forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Do not be the one boasting about what you are going to do tomorrow, instead live in the moment, trusting in the Lord to move you and take the necessary action that brings about victory.

Prov 27:1, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.”

C. Disobedience Num 20:8-12

C. Disobedience Num 20:8-12 When God’s Word tells us to do one thing, yet we do another, we step outside of His Plan for our lives.

Many times our frustration and anger get the better of us, which leads to disobedience and a lack of faith in obeying God’s specific instructions.

It takes more effort to be disobedient than it does to be obedient, yet man in Satan’s Cosmic System thinks just the opposite.

Instead of heeding God’s Word we use human effort. This is how religion and legalism gets started, which is in opposition to faith and trusting in the Lord. Cf. 2 Kings 18:4

Our lack of obedient faith may lead to Divine discipline. Prov 3:11-12

Obedience to God’s mandates and trust in Him go hand in hand, that comes from putting the Scriptures into practice in your life.

Our obedience to His mandates and promises lead to His blessings in our lives. And our obedience is a demonstration of our faith.

If you have obeyed God, and have faithfully served Him and done His will, the Lord considers you a success.

1 Sam 15:22, “Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.”

Mat 25:23, “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your Lord.’”

Mark 12:33, “And to love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as himself, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

Cf. Heb 10:5-7, “Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, “Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, but a body You have prepared for Me; 6 In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have taken no pleasure. …

… 7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (In the scroll of the book it is written of Me) To do Your will, O God.’”

1 Cor 10:31, “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

Grace Offering Prov 3:9-10, “Honor the LORD from your wealth and from the first of all your produce; So your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will overflow with new wine.”
