21 There are natural reasons for the Earth’s warming, but human activities such as producing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are contributing to global warming. The gases trap heat that would otherwise escape into space. Due to this, the amount of carbon dioxide in the air has increased 25% and the average temperature has increased by 0.5C since the 1890’s. As carbon dioxide levels increase temperature will continue to increase causing: – This could cause a rise in sea level by melting glaciers and polar ice caps. – As land is flooded, temperate zones will change. – Farming may be more or less productive in certain areas.
