Middle Ages The Friendly and The Not So Friendly!

Knights In the Middle Ages the Knights were only men who would fight for land. They fought for the king. At first the young boys trained to be a knight. They went to school to learn how to use weapons and they learned how to ride a horse! They wore metal chains to protect them because it was hard for a sword to go through it. Through time, the metal chains became useless because they were just like adding more weight on them. The reason why they became useless is because they made small swords, and they had bow and arrows. So now they had a style change. So they used the metal armor. Now no bows and arrows or small swords could get through. But there was one small problem, if they fell off their horse, they would not be able to get up and their enemy would probably attack them. On their shields they had some sort of symbol that resembled them. Most had a cross resembling their religion. That is all about knights.

Kings Kings were the rulers of the land and all land belonged to them. They could lend it to someone, but it was always the king’s land. The king always had to have knights to protect the castles and attach other castles for their wealth. The king had basically one job and that was to keep his land under from attack. If you were the king you would be living life! That is some things about the king.

Serfs Serfs were treated very unfairly and had about no rights. They had very little land and not so nice homes. They worked to keep their land. They had very poor conditions with their homes, clothes and lack of food.

The Feudal System The feudal system is a social system between a lord and a vassal. The lord will grant the vassal the land with houses, tools, barns, animals and serfs. Usually the vassal was required to serve as a knight or as a mounted soldier in full uniform. The feudal pyramid goes like this: king, greater nobles, lesser nobles, and tenants of lesser nobles.

Fun Facts!!!Fun Facts!!! People in the Middle Ages created chimneys! They believed in witches and devils! People bathed in cold water unless they were wealthy enough for hot water!
