2 Starter 60 second challenge. You have 60 seconds to find a definition of “wireless internet.” Note: You have to be able to fully understand it and explain it (so do not just google it and hope for the best!)

3 Objectives Understand different personal communication systems are available. Know what personal communications connections are available. Be able to select the most appropriate method of personal communication.

4 The connections you need to know Wireless (Wi-Fi) Bluetooth WiMax GIS (Geographical Information System) GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)

5 Wireless Internet Allows you to share a broadband connection. No need for lots of wires. Can access the web on a range of appliances (phone, TV, games console etc). Let’s everything ‘talk’ to each other. Secure (if protected) Requires wireless equipment. Can ‘conflict’ with surrounding devices. Could be hacked? Security / Transmission interception. Wireless Router Needed. Can share information, music etc.

6 Where for art thou Wireless In the home. Small businesses School Trains / Public Transport Increasingly more in the public places.

7 Create a Concept Map Using appropriate software you need to create a concept diagram (spider diagram / brain storm etc). This must show: What wireless is. What are the benefits What are the drawbacks Who would use it. Struggling with software? use www.bubbl.us

8 Objectives Review Understand different personal communication systems are available. Know what personal communications connections are available. Be able to select the most appropriate method of personal communication.
