After successful completion of 5 Units in this Lesson, you will be able to answer: 1.Under what soil conditions the deficiencies of each micronutrient occur? 2.Describe the plant symptoms due to nutrient deficiencies of each micronutrient nutrient in sorghum crop? Virtual Academy for the Semi Arid Tropics Lesson 4. Deficiency Symptoms of Micronutrients Course on Sorghum Production Practices Module VI: Plant Nutrient Deficiency Symptoms

The 5 Units in this Lesson are: Unit 1: Iron Deficiency Symptoms Unit 2: Zinc Deficiency Symptoms Unit 3: Boron Deficiency Symptoms Unit 4: Copper Deficiency Symptoms Unit 5: Manganese Deficiency Symptoms Virtual Academy for the Semi Arid Tropics Lesson 4. Deficiency Symptoms of Micronutrients Course on Sorghum Production Practices Module VI: Plant Nutrient Deficiency Symptoms

Virtual Academy for the Semi Arid Tropics Lesson 4. Deficiency Symptoms of Micronutrients Course on Sorghum Production Practices Module VI: Plant Nutrient Deficiency Symptoms Unit 4: Copper Deficiency Symptoms After successful completion of this Unit you should be able to answer: 1.Describe the leaf symptoms due to molybdenum deficiency in sorghum? 2.What is the typical leaf symptom due to copper deficiency?

Virtual Academy for the Semi Arid Tropics Lesson 4. Deficiency Symptoms of Micronutrients Course on Sorghum Production Practices Module VI: Plant Nutrient Deficiency Symptoms Unit 4: Copper Deficiency Symptoms A deficiency of copper reduces growth and affected sorghum plants become stunted with thin stems and pale green foliage. The symptoms appear only on leaves which are still within the whorl and on young mature leaves. Observe the stunted growth and paler color of the copper-deficient plants (center and left).

Virtual Academy for the Semi Arid Tropics Lesson 4. Deficiency Symptoms of Micronutrients Course on Sorghum Production Practices Module VI: Plant Nutrient Deficiency Symptoms Unit 4: Copper Deficiency Symptoms In mild deficiencies, the leaves turn pale green in color and an interveinal pale yellow chlorosis develops at the base of the blades. The whorl of expanding leaves may remain tightly rolled and become bent to one side.

Virtual Academy for the Semi Arid Tropics Lesson 4. Deficiency Symptoms of Micronutrients Course on Sorghum Production Practices Module VI: Plant Nutrient Deficiency Symptoms Unit 4: Copper Deficiency Symptoms When the deficiency is severe, a pale brown necrosis develops at the tips of the youngest leaves. The affected leaf tips wither and die, often twisting into a spiral shape. Brown necrotic tip on the blade of a young copper-deficient leaf

With this, the Unit 4 on Copper Deficiency Symptoms in sorghum in this Lesson concludes. In the last Unit in this Lesson deficiency symptoms of manganese in sorghum are explained. Select Unit 5 of Lesson 4 from Module VI contents Virtual Academy for the Semi Arid Tropics Lesson 4.
