4 Writing Activity-10 minutes Write a half page persuasive paragraph explaining to me why you had the best spring break. Tell me: Where you went What you did What makes your vacation better than everyone else's

5 Volunteers Volunteers will be allowed to share their paragraph. Whoever I think had the best vacation will win a sucker YOU CAN ONLY READ WHAT IS ON YOUR PAPER

6 Speech With a partner you will decide what topic the two of you will cover. One person will cover the PRO side of the topic, the other will cover the CON side. Speeches will be 3-4 minutes long You will need to dress professionally Note cards allowed, no reading off of them just use them as a guide No PowerPoint!

7 Standards that this covers 8.5.4 Write persuasive compositions that: include a well-defined thesis that makes a clear and knowledgeable appeal. present detailed evidence, examples, and reasoning to support effective arguments and emotional appeals. provide details, reasons, and examples, arranging them effectively by anticipating and answering reader concerns and counterarguments. 8.7.13 Deliver persuasive presentations that: include a well-defined thesis (position on the topic). differentiate fact from opinion and support arguments with detailed evidence, examples, reasoning, and persuasive language. anticipate and effectively answer listener concerns and counterarguments through the inclusion and arrangement of details, reasons, examples, and other elements.

9 Partner Up!! When I say go, you will have 10 seconds to get with a partner. After that you will look through the topic list and pick the top three choices that you and your partner would like to cover You will have 5 minutes to pick your top three, then I will randomly pick names so that we assign topics. Make sure you know which side you are covering for your topic
