7-4 Solving Compound Inequalities

*Drill #107 Solve each inequality, then graph the solution on a number line: 1. 2. 7.3x – 3.02 > 4.9x 3. m + 17 < – (4m – 13)

Cummulative Review Pg 380-381 Due Friday

HSA Prep Classes Classes T/Th at 3:10-4:10 in Banneker Hall. Starts tomorrow Those who scored low on benchmarks are required to attend

*Compound Inequality Two Inequalities connected by and or or. Examples: x > 5 and x 5 or y < 7

What is the difference between ‘and’ & ‘or’? I have a cat and a dog I have a cat or a dog

*Intersection (and) The graph of a compound inequality containing and is the intersection (or overlap) of the graphs of the two inequalities. The intersection or overlap is where both inequalities are true. The solution of x>2 and x<4 is the intersection of the two graphs, or 2 < x < 4.

*NBA Scoring Kobe Bryant is first in scoring with 31.5 points per game. Gilbert Arenas is third in scoring with 28.4 points per game. If Carmelo Anthony is second write a compound inequality that represents his scoring average. (Use x for your variable)

*7-4 Study Guide #1

*Union (or) The graph of a compound inequality containing or is the union (combination) of the two graphs or inequalities. The union of two inequalities is where one or the other is true. The solution of x>2 or x<4 is the union of 2 < x and x < 4.
