2 BALTIC SEA REGION STUDIES  SINCE 1997  NON DEGREE STUDIES AT UNDERGRADUATE /POSTGRADUATE LEVEL  MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAMME  INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS AND PROJECTS

3 BALTIC SEA REGION STUDIES  multidisciplinary approach  focus on the BS region  cross-university, cross-faculty, cross-dept…  co-ordinated by the Faculty of Humanities  in English

4 BALTIC SEA REGION STUDIES NON DEGREE STUDIES in fields of:. History and Culture. Languages and Communication. Society and Economics

5 BALTIC SEA REGION STUDIES NON DEGREE STUDIES  courses worth at least 25 ECTS annually, organised and funded by the programme  based on the academic expertise and interest of the departments > proposals to the programme  integrated to the curriculum of the departments - credits go to the departments

6 BALTIC SEA REGION STUDIES NON DEGREE STUDIES  International classroom, and international teaching and learning environment: - exchange students - Finnish degree students - teachers from UT and partner universities  Internationalisation at home

7 BALTIC SEA REGION STUDIES MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME  a multidisciplinary programme under the Faculty of Humanities ( government decree on Master's programmes 14.7.2005)  120 ECTS, 2 years  leading to Master of Arts in Baltic Sea Region Studies  started Autumn 2005

8 BALTIC SEA REGION STUDIES MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME The f ocus is on historical and current political, economic and cultural development in the Baltic Sea Region, national and international co-operation in and among the countries of the region, as well as the region’s perspectives in the context of European regionalisation and globalisation. These processes of economic, cultural and political interaction and region-building have to be scientifically observed and analysed.

9 BALTIC SEA REGION STUDIES MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME JOINT DEGREE (JD):  Based on joint curriculum planning between the partner universities  Students are admitted to one of the partner universities (> home university)  Each student will study at least one semester at a partner university  The degree is awarded by the home university, with an additional explanation on the joint degree, and a diploma supplement

10 BALTIC SEA REGION STUDIES MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME The frame agreement on the collaboration and main structure has been signed in August 2005 by: University of Turku University of Latvia University of Tartu (Estonia) Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas, Lithuania) Other partners will join later (Gdansk, Copenhagen, Humboldt in Berlin, Södertörn..
