Mike Haworth SCOE The History of the Negro Leagues 5/29/01CTAP 295 Final Presentation My Achievements Student interest and understanding A lesson addressing many different standards A better personal understanding of the difficulties of African Americans in this era. Teamwork

Mike Haworth SCOE The History of the Negro Leagues 5/29/01CTAP 295 Final Presentation My Pitfalls Transient population of my Juvenile Hall students Time restrictions Lack of basic computer skills of students Lack of motivation of a select few students

Mike Haworth SCOE The History of the Negro Leagues 5/29/01CTAP 295 Final Presentation Student Data The problem I run into with my students is the transient nature of our school. I did this in 3 classes totaling 50 students for 2 weeks. The results above show the only 14 students who were there for the duration of the lessons. A majority of the kids improved dramatically. I believe for some this might have been the first time they had addressed the issues in the lessons in their lives.

Mike Haworth SCOE The History of the Negro Leagues 5/29/01CTAP 295 Final Presentation Revisions I made a PowerPoint slide show instead of the paper lesson I was using originally. Adjusted rubric to address the concerns of my transient student population.

Mike Haworth SCOE The History of the Negro Leagues 5/29/01CTAP 295 Final Presentation My Final Thoughts This project has opened my eyes to the creative thoughts of California teachers. As a trainer for this class I have been exposed to some of the most dedicated and unheralded people. I have been energized to want to make more lessons for the teachers who don’t have the opportunities I do. I have always been a technology user but having the standards to use as a model has made using the technology easier. Teaching Juvenile Hall students I have come to the realization that if I use any technology with my lessons it will have a greater impact. My students thrive on outside stimulation and that is one of the strengths of many technologies. I believe of all the CTAP and other trainings I have been involved with this is the most beneficial.
