2  To be classified as a city in Georgia you have to have a legal government and have powers with the state and council.  There are 535 cities in Georgia and each gets there own charter for a municipal government from the Georgia Assembly.  Most of the cities in Georgia are in the basic mayor-council form.

3  In Georgia, the counties control state programs including collecting taxes, overseeing elections, conducting courts of law, filing official records, maintaining roads, and providing for the welfare of citizens.  Georgia has 159 counties each with there own governments to help the people in it.

4  It is a system of municipal government in which a mayor is elected by the people of the area. There are two types a weak mayor council and a strong mayor council. Weak Mayor-Council Mayor has no power outside of council. He cannot appoint officials He lacks veto power from council votes Weak mayor councils are found in small towns Strong Mayor-Council Strong mayor councils have executive branches. The mayor is elected by popular vote It also consists of a legislature government. Most large American cities use strong mayor council. Council Manager Government – Is a type of mayor council in which occurs mainly in large cities. In this type the governing body is responsible for the legislature of the government instead of the executive.

5  These are independent government units that is separate from mayor council form governments.  In the USA there are 39000 active special purpose governments.  The governing body are appointed by private entities.  Some examples of this government are fire, police, library, and utility.  Also, they serve many roles in helping everyone in the community to live and survive worry free.

6  In the United States there are 50 state governments and 87, 576 local governments.  Every day small governments like special purpose including fire an police work with the state governments to create special programs to help kids and other people.  This helps the communities tremendously by developing and creating friendships and partnerships.
