2 TWO NEW TASK GROUPS:  To look at the needs of particular groups of people we have not given much attention to – until now (Health Self Assessment)  To respond to recent Government policy and guidance  To involve people with specialist knowledge, including self advocates and family carers  To meet for a time-limited period: six months  To make recommendations to the Making It Happen Partnership

3 AUTISM TASK GROUP  The Autism Act 2009 and the autism strategy ask us how health and social services can give better support to adults with autism  What are the ways that adults can get an assessment and diagnosis? Who decides they have autism?

4 AUTISM TASK GROUP  What training must staff receive so that they can understand and assess the needs of people with autism?  What reasonable adjustments should be made so that people with autism can access the services they need?  How good is the transition planning for young people with autism?  Who has the lead responsibility for commissioning services for adults with autism?

5 TASK GROUP FOR ADULTS WITH PROFOUND DISABILITIES  “Raising our sights” report published in 2010  It looks at services for adults with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities  These adults have the greatest support needs and deserve the best services

6 ADULTS WITH PROFOUND DISABILITIES The report makes recommendations about:  Personalised support  Help for carers  Independent advocacy  Transition planning for young people  Housing  Assistive technology  Aids and equipment  Health services (including postural care, dysphagia, epilepsy and the relief of pain)  Short breaks  Employment and day activity
