3 What is Ubuntu Pronounced (OO-BOON-TOO)  Ubuntu is a free open source OS  Based on Debian GNU/Linux Kernel  Strong focus on usability and ease of installation  First release was in October 2004  Alternative to Windows and Mac OS

5 The Definition of Ubuntu  The Zulu word “Ubuntu”  Ubuntu is a word that means “Humanity to Others”, and “I am what I am because of who we all are”  Ubuntu is a community that creates, maintains and provides for all

13 My Experience  Straight forward installation  Easy to use interface  Responsive  Google Chrome not available for Linux  Google Picasa not available for Linux  Edubuntu includes many children’s applications Overall – Easy for a novice to install Fast and easy to use interface

14 Overall  Ubuntu is very similar to Vista  Installation is one of the easiest I have experienced  Lots of applications  Cost is a real benefit  Speed appeared much better with Ubuntu - May be significant with a Netbook - Signed up for Google Chrome for Linux - Not a fan of IE, Firefox or Opera
