Strategies for Taking Standardized Tests

‘Twas the Night Before Testing Go to bed EARLY Solve family/friend problems before the testing date. Talk to your parents and teachers about any concerns that you might have about the test.

A. $300 B. $450 C. $500 D.$1050 The circle graph below shows information about the budget for a school party. The total budget for the party is $1500. What is the total dollar amount in the budget for entertainment? Multiple Choice Questions all Read the question and all answer choices before marking anything in your answer booklet

The Morning of Testing Start your day as you always do. EAT a good breakfast – Take advantage of the free breakfast here at Glen Landing. Think of what you will do to relax after you get home from school. Think Positive!!!!!!Think Positive!!!!!!

Multiple Choice Questions DO NOT leave any questions unanswered…. You have ¼ (25%) chance of getting it correct but 0 if you do not answer it at all!

Pace Yourself! Don’t spend too much time on any one question. Do your best and then move on. If you are not sure of an answer put a ? next to the problem on the test booklet…. You can always go back to it later.

After you have been through all of the questions once, go back and find questions you have some knowledge about (the ones you marked with a ?) and eliminate choices that you know are incorrect. I know C isn’t the answer!

Math Computation When using scratch paper on a math test, double check to make sure that you have copied the problem correctly from the test booklet!

Math Computation Line up place value correctly on your scratch paper (thousands, hundreds, tens, ones) or the answer will be incorrect.

Math Computation If your answer does not match one of the choices: reread the problem Check to see if there is an equivalent value such as another fraction, percent or decimal recopy the numbers and try solving it again.

For example: You get the answer of 10/15 and the following are the choices given: A. 50% B. 2/15 C. 2/3 D.2.15 A. 66.6% B. 2/15 C. 10/3 D.6.6

Thank you, Mr. Know-it-all! it's okay not to know Remember it's okay not to know everything everything — unlike class tests, these tests will have some questions designed to challenge the limits of your knowledge at a grade level above your current grade.

Remember…. Do not get stressed about the test… take on the challenge of showing them what you DO know and have learned throughout the years!

When it comes to the test, I will not get stressed! I will simply try my best!

PPT developed by Debra A. Wilson When may you need to use these manipulatives? Usually they will ask you to use them or will see similar shapes. Ex. Draw a 40 O angle… use the protractor… Ex. Measure the distance from one point to another using your ruler…. Sometimes you may not need to use them at all, it depends on the test.

Find the measure of the missing angle x. DO NOT USE YOUR PROTRACTOR TO FIND THISMISSING ANGLE … IT IS NOT TO SCALE…. THEY WANT YOU TO SOLVE MATHEMATICALLY!!!

a.Use your protractor to draw a 40 o angle. b. Draw another line connected to the angle that you drew to make a triangle. c. What is the measurement of the other two angles that were formed when you created your triangle?
