3 Strategic Risk Forum - February 2013 So best we get started!!

4 Strategic Risk Forum - February 2013 Ingredients for Success Education and Training must be a component – necessary for sustainability; Understand Value - everyone must be made aware of the value of our infrastructure and the consequences of a crumbling infrastructure – this will incite action; it may assist in appeasing and persuading; Collaboration –sharing resources, knowledge, learning and building consensus, working together to wards shared goal – however goals to be aligned with national interests ……Yes there would be many more……

5 Strategic Risk Forum - February 2013 Reality Check Delay in starting exacerbates the problem – “Rule of 5”; Growing Population Pleasing everyone is not a solution – nor is making everyone equally unhappy a solution – a challenge for politicians and a call for strong leadership; We need to eat the elephant one bite at a time – we must prioritise; Priorities should include protecting existing infrastructure; Investment/Money on it’s own is not a solution The challenge is linked with other issues – political, social etc.

6 Strategic Risk Forum - February 2013 Idea Is there an opportunity for the Financial Services Industry to assist participation by emerging contractors in the infrastructure spend? Typically the emerging contractor has the technical skills but not the other managerial skills nor required support structures. Accordingly, if we could provide a such a structure this would be an enabling action; Suggested structure would be a company, perhaps non-profit, with shareholders and board including selected insurance companies, banks and government – could be described as a public private partnership. Commitment would be needed by all – collateral pool “ government loan?”; % of profit plough back?
