2 About Me Graduated from Baylor University, 2003 Worked in the field of education for 12 years Spent 9 years as a certified teacher in the DFW area Currently 4 th year as a college access provider

3 How Can I Help? College applications: in-state and out-of-state College application fee waivers Texas Residency Affidavit Writing assistance with college and/or scholarship essays SAT/ACT test prep Scholarship applications: university specific, private schools, private lenders/organizations FAFSA/TAFSA applications Requesting letters of recommendation from your counselor, teacher, administrator, etc.

6 Early Decision Early Decision- binding contract between the student and the college Apply early; usually in November Receive admission decision usually by December Withdraw all other applications if accepted Nonrefundable deposit due well in advance of the normal reply date of May 1st

7 Early Action Early Action- Nonbinding; students don’t have to commit until May 1 st Apply early Receive an admission decision usually in January or February Can apply to other colleges under regular admission plans Have time to compare financial aid offers

8 Regular Decision Regular Admissions Timeline: Most regular admissions deadlines fall on the first Friday in December, the 4 th, or by the close of the first semester Completed applications include, but aren’t limited to: online application, application fee waiver, SAT/ACT test scores, official high school transcript. Some schools may ask for letters of recommendation, essays, and/or student résumé. Admission decisions are between 4-6 weeks, 4-8 weeks during peak times i.e. holiday breaks

10 Financial Aid Applying for the FAFSA online; application opens Jan. 1 st, 2016 Assistance with TAFSA for non-U.S. residents; paper application mailed to the various universities/colleges Supplemental documentation for FAFSA/TAFSA- student/parent tax information or 2015, tax transcript, verification forms(may be online or in paper format)

11 Financial Aid: CSS Profile Information used by colleges & scholarship programs to award institutional aid Many out-of-state institutions require it, check to see if your college requires it Includes an initial fee of $25; fee waiver eligibility is determined by family income reported on the application

12 Scholarships Assistance with essays and scholarship requirements Inform of local and/or online scholarships available Monthly scholarship blitz to focus on applying for scholarships, currently available scholarships, writing essays, etc.
