8 Work plan  Extract kafirin protein from available sorghum bran sources  Meanwhile, investigate conditions of tropical and deciduous fruits and cashew nuts after harvest  Develop coating techniques  Evaluate quality of coated fruit and cashew nuts  Investigate release from kafirin films and thermoplastic kafirin  Test coated fruit and cashew nuts under real conditions

Isolation and optimisation of protein extraction procedures, and preparation and chemical modification of film materials - UP 3. Analysis and physical properties of protein, films and coatings - IFR 4. Investigation of thermoplasticity of film materials and development of thermoplastic processing techniques - ITMC 5. Development of coating techniques for fruits and cashew nuts - UEM 6. Evaluation of the quality of coated fruits and cashew nuts – UOM 7. Investigation of release of components from coatings and films to fruit and nuts 8. Commercial testing of improved products and technology transfer - CSIR
