Number 2. Ecuador By: Briana B Rivera

The native people of Ecuador grew crops of maize, beans, potatoes and squash. They kept dogs and guinea pigs for meat. Many of them were skilled potters and metalworkers in gold, silver and copper. However in the late 15th century they were conquered by the Incas. The Spaniards first sighted the coast of Ecuador in 1526 and they soon turned to conquest. The Spaniards conquered what is now Ecuador in 1534. The Spaniards had already conquered the Incas in what is now Peru. However Inca resistance continued further north. Francisco Pizzaro's follower, Sebastian de Banalcazar led another army into Ecuador from the south and he gradually crushed the remaining Incas resistance in the region. In 1534 the Spaniards founded the city of Quito on the remains of a captured Inca city. Guayaquil was founded in 1535. Cuenca was founded in 1557. The typical food in Ecuador would be seafood, since they live so close to the coast seafood is their specialty. The clothing is Ecuador is about the same in any country although it does depend on the region of the country.

Ecuador has a variety of hotels and resorts. One of the best known hotels in Ecuador would be the Casa Gangotena located in Cuenca. It’s luxury at it’s best located in the heart of Ecuador with it’s traditions held high. This is truly one of the best hotels/resorts in Ecuador.

One of my favorite restaurants out of all the many Ecuador offers is the ZAZU.

Located in the heart of Quito, the Church of the Society of Jesus, or “La Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús,” is perhaps the best known of the capital’s famed cathedrals. Built in the early 1600s, the church’s design is considered a premier example of Baroque architecture in the New World. The expansive use of gold leaf throughout the central nave of the church is breathtaking.
