1 MAXIMIZING LEARNING TEAM CHALLENGES

2 Build a Paper Clip Chain
MATERIALS: 1 box of paper clips per team

3 TEAM INSTRUCTIONS: You have 5 minutes to make a chain of paper clips as long as possible. But there’s a catch! This is a one-handed task: all team members must place one hand behind their backs! No talking is allowed during this task. You will be notified when there is one minute remaining. You will receive 20 bonus points if your chain measures at least 12 inches long. 5:00

7 Move Paper MATERIALS: 100 pieces of 1-inch square paper
drinking straws, 1 for each team member 1 large bowl / or box

8 3:00 TEAM INSTRUCTIONS: You have 3 minutes to move all of the
pieces of paper from the table-top and into the bowl. You may use only the straws to move the paper. You may not touch the paper with any part of your body. You will be notified when you have one minute remaining. You will receive 25 bonus points if you move every piece of paper into the bowl. 3:00

Build the Alphabet Materials: 2 straws 5 paper clips 10 toothpicks 1 clothespin 1 12-in. square of aluminum foil 1 12-in. length of string 5 recycled plastic lids 3 rubber bands scissors

13 TEAM INSTRUCTIONS: Your task today is to create the alphabet from the construction materials you see on the table. You must create as many letters as possible in 5 minutes. The letters must be created in alphabetical order – you can’t jump ahead to easy letters. Team members may not speak during building time. You will be notified when you have only one minute remaining. You will receive 1 bonus point for every complete and recognizable letter. 5:00

17 Marshmallow Madness MATERIALS: SET UP: 1 Box CONSTRUCTION:
1 5-ft length of string 1 bag of large marshmallows 10 paper clips 5 straws 10 pieces of dried spaghetti

18 2:00 TEAM INSTRUCTIONS: You have 2 minutes to devise a method
to hold as many marshmallows as possible above ground level. No team member is to be in direct contact with any marshmallows during the scoring process. Scoring begins at the end of the two- minute building time. You will receive 1 bonus point for each successfully suspended marshmallow. 2:00

to hold as many marshmallows as possible above ground level. No team member is to be in direct contact with any marshmallows during the scoring process. Scoring begins at the end of the two- minute building time. You will receive 1 bonus point for each successfully suspended marshmallow. 2:00
