2  Howard Gardner (Born July,11,1943 in Scranton, Pennsylvania) is an American development psychologist  Professor of Cognition and Education at Harvard  Married to Ellen winner, and has four sons and one grandchild  Received many awards

3  Author of over 20 booksbooks  Best known for his theory of multiple intelligences  parents were refugees from Nazi Germany  He was an avid reader and loved music back then  He later became a gifted pianist

4  The theory of multiple intelligences was proposed in 1983  The ability to create an effective product or offer a service  A set of skills that make it possible to solve problems or fashion products that are valuable in one or more cultural settings  The potential for finding or creating solutions for problems, which involves gathering new knowledge.

5  Human beings have eight different kinds of intelligences, and each person has their own unique combination 1. Spatial 2. Linguistic 3. Logical-mathematical 4. Bodily-kinesthetic 5. Musical/rhythmetic 6. Interpersonal 7. Intrapersonal 8. Naturalistic

6  The brain ability to perceive and interpret visual stimuli. How our minds process what we see (Draw and Paint Programs, Clip Art, ppt, Safari Montage)  very important in the arts and in everyday life  used by average people to remember small, but important facts(how to travel from your house to school)  Famous people with spatial intelligence…for example: Leonardo Da Vinci, Pablo Picasso

7  the capacity to use language, your native language, and perhaps other languages, to express what's on your mind and to understand other people Criteria Used for Linguistic Intelligence Can understand words and manipulate the structure of language Has highly developed communication skills including writing, speaking, and story-telling Knows and correctly uses rules of grammar Enjoys reading, writing, and speaking Has a large vocabulary Famous people: William Shakespeare, T.S. Elliot

8  the capacity to use numbers effectively and reason well  People are able to identify a problem and solve it right on the spot, they think by reasoning, and they love experimenting, questioning, figuring out logical puzzles, and calculating  Famous mathematicians:  Plato, Eisenstein

9  expertise in using one’s whole body to express ideas and feelings For example: Dancing, Acting, sports  the ability to use one’s hands to produce or transform things For example: sculpting, drawing, painting  thinking through physical sensations  Famous people: Thomas Edison

10  Able to distinguish the sounds around you and having the ability to make your own melodies For example: singing, making your own music  Famous Musicians: Ludwig van Beethoven

13  involves how sensitive an individual is towards nature and the world around them  Individuals who are naturalistic intelligence are interested in growing plants and/or taking care of animals For example: zookeepers, gardeners

14  it suggests that we ought to be thinking about intelligence and teaching in a different way than we have been  It points out that intelligence in itself is not a measure of good or bad, nor of happy or sad
