We are a Title I school What does this mean?

We are Title I because… Our school has a high number of students who are eligible for Free and Reduced Price Lunch. – We receive additional federal money to help increase student achievement in our school. – Unified Improvement Plans (UIP) were written to clearly define how Title I money will be spent. You are welcome to come to the office to see the UIP.

We are Title I because… – All educational funds in our schools, including Title I, support a standards based education. Student progress is monitored by the School Performance Frameworks (SPF) from the Colorado Department of Education. – 1% of the district’s Title I budget will be distributed to schools for parent involvement. You have the right to have input as to how this money is spent. You can learn more by contacting your Family Liaison.

What is the State School Performance Framework (SPF)? The framework used, by the state, to provide information to stakeholders about each school’s performance based on the four key performance indicators: 1. student academic growth, 2. student achievement, 3. achievement and growth gaps, and 4. postsecondary/workforce readiness. Schools are assigned to a type of improvement plan based on their performance across all of the indicator areas.

State Performance Indicators Achievement Percent proficient and advanced Reading (CSAP, Lectura, and CSAPA) Writing (CSAP, Escritura, and CSAPA) Math (CSAP and CSAPA) Science (CSAP and CSAPA) Growth Normative and Criterion- Referenced Growth CSAP Reading, Writing and Math CELApro Median Student Growth Percentiles Adequate Median Student Growth Percentiles Growth Gaps Median Student Growth Percentiles and Median Adequate Growth Percentiles for disaggregated groups: Poverty Race/Ethnicity Disabilities English Language Learners Below proficient Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness Colorado ACT Graduation Rate (overall and for disaggregated groups) Dropout Rate Slide 12

What are the priority categories? Elementary and middle schools that earn at least 35% but less than 45%, of their framework points, on the school performance framework report are assigned to a Priority Improvement Plan category. Schools that receive less than 35% are assigned to a Turnaround Plan category. High schools that earn at least 30% but less than 45%, of their framework points, on the school performance framework report are assigned to a Priority Improvement Plan category. Schools that receive less than 30% are assigned to a Turnaround Plan category.

PAUSE Share your school’s 2013-14 State SPF category. Skip the next 5 slides if your school is not Priority Improvement or Turnaround

How does it affect us? Eligible students attending Priority Improvement or Turnaround schools are provided with free tutoring opportunities and school choice options to help ensure that they achieve at high levels.

Supplemental Educational Services(SES) Who is eligible? Our school is eligible for SES- because our school is a Title I school with a status of Priority Improvement or Turnaround. Eligible students are 1 st -8 th grade students who score below proficient on standardized exams in reading or math. Information flyers to parents of eligible students will arrive in your home by mid- August via US mail.

Supplemental Educational Services(SES) How do I choose a provider? Review the registration materials. Contact your school to discuss what SES providers are available at your school, in your home, in the community or online. Applications will be sent to your home in September. Choose only one provider and return it using the postage paid envelope. Tutoring services will begin in November.

PAUSE Talk about the provider/s being used at your school as well as the scheduling and timeline of the program/s

Title I Choice All 1 st -8 th grade students in our school are eligible for Title I Choice- this gives them the option to attend a higher performing school with transportation provided. A letter will be mailed to your home by January explaining your school choice options.

Parent Compact A Parent Compact is an agreement between the school and a family to improve student performance. – The compact is part of the Unified Improvement Plan and will be shared with you during the first trimester.

PAUSE This is a good opportunity to share the school compact in a whole group setting. Signatures are not necessary for the compact.

Highly Qualified Teachers You have the right to know the qualifications of the teachers in your school. You will receive a letter of notification in the Fall if your child is being taught by a teacher who does not meet the federal requirements.
