4. Is a process by which the humanitarian community collaboratively analyses existing humanitarian information and reaches a shared understanding of the most pressing issues and of the likely evolution of the situation. Informs the Humanitarian Country Team’s strategic response.

5. Severity Ranking Tool: provides a structured way to compare humanitarian needs, impacts and vulnerabilities across geographic areas and sectors, combining data on different aspects of the crisis and from different sources together in a consistent way.

7. What are the main questions we need to answer? Examples What is the impact of the humanitarian situation on children, women, families and community supporting mechanisms? What are the risks facing children and women as a result of the emergency situation in the northeast? Are there any groups of children at heightened risk? (Age and sex disaggregated information)

8. How we collect information? Existing assessments, monitoring and survey data. Other secondary data and baseline data: maps, cluster, government and media Expert judgement: sectors, agencies, NGOs, national representatives, community bodies, government, affected population Vulnerability / severity ranking tool development of a humanitarian needs overview is not dependent on the availability of uniform and high-quality data: in many countries data will be partial or incomplete.

Nutrition in Emergencies… Examples of nutrition concerns that children may be more at risk of in an emergency setting are:  Psychosocial distress (affecting nursing and care for young children)  Inadequate care and feeding (poor quality and frequency);  Access to the services, including treatment facilities (insecurity/conflict, affecting people getting services and care)  Heightened risk of exposure to infections and diseases (child illnesses)
