2 A word coined in American English but recognized as characteristic of the way in which most Americans speak. The belief that American values are the most ideal of cultural values or an attitude that gives special importance for the United States of America.

3 Civic Competence

4 A belief that one can affect government policies.

5 Civic Duty

6 A belief that one has an obligation to participate in civic and political affairs.

7 Class Consciousness

8 An awareness if belonging to a particular socioeconomic class whose interests are different from those of others. Usually used in reference to workers who view their interests as opposite those of managers and business owners.

9 Culture War

10 Has been used to describe ideologically-driven and often strident confrontations typical of American public culture and politics since the 1960s, and the early 1980s.

11 Equality of Opportunity

12 A view that is wrong to use race or sex either to discriminate against or give preferential treatment to minorities or women.

13 Equality of Result

14 The Burdens of racism and sexism can be overcome only by taking race or sex into account in designing remedies.
