Every complete sentence has a subject and a predicate.

3 What are Subjects and Predicates?
The subject of a sentence tells who or what the sentence is about. The predicate of a sentence tells what the subject is or does.

4 Examples of Subjects and Predicates
Subject Predicate The dog ran. They ate pizza for dinner. This city is old. We are tired. Notice that the subject in each of these sentences tells who or what the sentence is about… ..and the predicate in each of these sentences tells what the subject is or does.

5 Finding the subject and predicate
To find the subject of a sentence, ask “who or what is the sentence about?” To find the predicate of a sentence, find the words that tell what the subject is or does.
