6 What is a database? A database is a collection of information. You can have a very large one such as an encyclopaedia on a CD-ROM, or a much smaller one that you create yourself.

11 Database Definitions A database is a collection of information, that is organised and makes it easy to find things. A table stores all the information about a particular topic A record (tuple) is all of the data about one person or one thing. It is made up of fields. A field is a single piece of data about one person or one thing. Datatype sets what kind of information can be stored in a field, eg number, text. A Primary Key is a field within a database which enables every record to be uniquely identified.
