2 Key Terms Pueblo-a communal structure for multiple dwelling and defensive purposes of certain agricultural Indians of the southwestern U.S.: built of adobe or stone, typically many-storied and terraced, the structures were often placed against cliff walls, with entry through the roof by ladder. Adobe-sun-dried brick made of clay and straw, in common use in countries having little rainfall. Nomads-a member of a people or tribe that has no permanent abode but moves about from place to place, usually seasonally and often following a traditional route or circuit according to the state of the pasturage or food supply. Hunter-gatherers-a member of a group of people who subsist by hunting, fishing, or foraging in the wild.

3 The First Texans 20,000 to 40,000 years ago the first people moved into the Americas. This nomadic people had crossed from Asia to the Americas using the Bering Land Bridge. 40,000 years ago the Earth was a much colder place. During this Ice Age the Northern Hemisphere was covered by huge pieces of ice called glaciers. As a result of so much water being trapped in ice, world sea levels dropped turning ocean floor to dry land. This is how the Bering Land Bridge was created.

5 The first people into the Americas were following large animals that they hunted as their main source of food. Over thousands of years, they spread across North, Central, and S. America Developed ways of life that were suited to their environment! Different cultures developed! Around 20,000 years ago the Earth warmed up and melted the glaciers. Isolating the inhabitants of the Americas from the rest of the world.

6 In TX Native American groups developed many different ways of life. -These groups are divided up into four cultural regions based on where each group lived & its way of life: -Southeastern -Plains -Puebloan -Western Gulf
