1 Warm Up #8: 3/6/12  Three of our vocabulary words have two different definitions. What are those three words? Once you have identified these words, write two sentences for each word. One sentence should use one meaning of the word and the other sentence should use the other meaning.

2 Students will be able to…by… Objectives!  Identify, define, and utilize academic vocabulary words  Effectively express and communicate their thoughts and ideas through writing  Edit and revise their writing  Creating sentences that show meaning and finding a partner that has the opposite meaning sentence  Using their prewriting to write an essay about a discovery they feel is the most important ever made  Peer editing two other classmates papers and having their writing edited by two classmates.

3 Warm Up Share Out  What are the words?  Contrast  Convey  Elaborate  What are the meanings?  Contrast  1. to SHOW the difference between two or more things- VERB  2. a noticeable difference- NOUN  Convey  1. to communicate feelings, thoughts, or ideas- VERB  2. to move something from one place to another- VERB  Elaborate  1. describes something very detailed- ADJECTIVE  2. to provide more detail or information about something- VERB  You will be given 3 post-it papers and you will be given a number: 1 or 2. If you are a 1 write your sentences that go with the #1 definitions on your post-its, if you are a 2 then you will write your sentences that match with the #2 definition. Once done grab your post-its and stand at the front of the room.

4 Vocabulary Next class we will test on our vocabulary from this semester AND last semester, so study all your words. We covered 10 words last semester and 10 words this semester.

6 Discoveries essay You are going to write an essay about a discovery that you feel is the most important ever made. First you need to choose a topic Second you will create a t-chart Third you will research that topic Fourth you will create an outline Fifth you will write your essay Rough draft Peer edit two times Type up your final draft

7 Remember: Peer Edit You will need to switch your paper with two classmates. For each peer edit you need to do the following: 1.2 compliments 2.2 suggestions 3.Make corrections using edit marks

8 Typing your final draft You need to have a complete rough draft and two peer edits, once you have these then you can go on a computer and type your final draft.

9 Homework Study your vocabulary words, from last semester and this semester… be prepared for “Swatters” next class and for testing on ALL words!
