 Wrath = hot anger, judgment, punishment  The wrath of God against sin is inevitable.  God’s holy nature demands that He punish sin.  Scripture is filled with both warning and example:Gen 6; 19; John 3.36  The coming “Day of the Lord” is characterized by wrath and judgment. Isa 13.9-13

 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, Cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, To lay the land desolate; And He will destroy its sinners from it.  For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine.

 “I will punish the world for its evil, And the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, And will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.  I will make a mortal more rare than fine gold, A man more than the golden wedge of Ophir.

 Therefore I will shake the heavens, And the earth will move out of her place, In the wrath of the LORD of hosts And in the day of His fierce anger.

 It seems hopeless!!! Rom 1.18, 28-2.3  But by His Grace, God offers a way of escape!!!  Ezekiel 6.8,9The Flood, Sodom & Gomorrah  God’s eternal plan includes a way of rescue, deliverance, redemption…  His plan involved a Man who would experience wrath in place of others.

 Jesus experienced the wrath of man…  Jesus experienced the wrath of Satan…  Jesus even experienced the wrath of God…  Isa 53.5-7,10a; 2 Cor 5.21  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin

CHORUS: This the pow'r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; Took the blame, bore the wrath - we stand forgiven at the cross.

 We have no idea how horrible that was.  Mark 14.32-35shocking awareness, sheer terror  Yet He willingly suffered so you and I wouldn’t have to!!!!!  God’s wrath against my sin was poured out on Jesus. 1 Thes 5.9-11  True for all who trust Him as their Savior.

 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,  who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.  Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

 There is still more wrath to come: Jn 3.36  The Time of TribulationMatt 24.21  For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.  Includes the wrath of God poured out on this sinful world. Rev 6.17; 19.15; Isa 24  And finally, on every unbeliever at the Great White Throne Judgment Rev 20.11-15

 If you receive the Gift of Salvation by faith in Christ you will never suffer God’s wrath against your sin.  Rom 5.9; 1 Thes 1.10; 1 Thes 5.9  If you remain in your sin, God’s wrath awaits.  Eph 2.1-3; 5.1-6
