What is Facebook?  Facebook is a social networking website that allows users to create and customize their own profiles with photos, videos, and information about themselves. Friends can browse the profiles of other friends and write messages on their pages (Tech Terms, 2008)

Addicting  Facebook Chat  Allows you to talk to your friends who are currently online  Games  Farmville  Café World

Games  Farmville  Process of creating your own Farm and managing it.  Café World  Creating your own café and serving your customers http://vator.tv/images/attachments/020909121934gameBig_f armville.jpg http://www.insidesocialgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/cafe-world-1.png

Risky Information  Social networking sites, such as Facebook, allow users to post unnecessary information such as the user's home address, telephone numbers, course schedule, as well as pictures. These should be considered private information. This takes advantage of your privacy and it lets the guard down for stalking and also sexual predators (Whittaker A., 2009).

Personal Profile  Contains a picture of you  You chose which one and may update it  School Achievements  What type of degree you have  Locating information  Home town  Current location  Age and Sex

Online Predators  13 years and older  Facebook does have an age limit of 13 years but all it is a button  Uncontrollable  It is impossible to control what others post about you which makes it risky

Controlling your Information  You can only control yourself  Stay away from online bullying  Posting statuses  No one cares what you do every second  Writing on walls  Keep it aproppriate

Inappropriate posts  Pictures  Nude Pictures  Drinking Pictures  Other illegal acts shown through pictures  Statuses  Teenagers make them insulting  Useless information

Who cares?  “Jaime” is ‘Still very sick… Maybe it’s a stomach virus… I hate these late nights by the toilet!’  “Bryan” has a credit score of 890.  As for “Mary,” she’s got “cramps” like you wouldn’t believe.  And they’re sharing that news with all their “friends” on Facebook.

Sexual Harassment  There is a mother in southern California who is fighting for her fourteen year old child’s rights. Some of his classmates at his school created an account in his name and posted inappropriate items. They posted obscure pictures, racist comments, and many more unsuitable posts. (William L., 2009).

Against the Law  Sexual Harassment  Is a crime  Can serve time  Online bullying  Can lead to death

Technology  Facebook can now be accessed on cell phones  Very distracting  Becoming more addicting  Sexting
