Karolinska Institutet Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Stockholm, Sweden Conclusions The Swedish version of the Acceptance of Chronic Health Conditions (ACHC) Scale is recommended to include seven items out of the original ten items to demonstrate acceptable psychometric properties. The seven item Swedish version of the ACHC Scale may be a valuable addition to what is currantly used in health care services, with the aim to improve quality of life in people with multiple sclerosis. Figure. The translation process and analysis of the Acceptance of Chronic Health Conditions Scale. Further evaluation focusing on the reliability of the ACHC Scale is in progress, as well as evaluation of extensive data collected in the cohort the Rasch analysis was based on. Introduction Acceptance is a coping strategy reported to be associated with higher quality of life in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). The Acceptance of Chronic Health Conditions (ACHC) Scale is a self rating scale of ten items and five categories, developed to measure acceptance of chronic health conditions such as MS. Methods The translation process, including cross-cultural adaptation and assessment of usefulness, followed recommended guidelines, see figure. Rasch analysis was used to analyze psychometric properties using data collected in a cohort of people with MS. Aims to translate and cross-culturally adapt the ACHC Scale into Swedish. to assess its usefulness in a Swedish context. to analyze psychometric properties of the Swedish version of the ACHC Scale. Results The Swedish version of the ACHC Scale was considered to be a satisfying equivalent to the original version. The ACHC Scale was found to represent aspects important to well-being in people with MS and to be useful in a Swedish context. Acceptable psychometric properties were demonstrated in a solution including seven of the ten original items of the ACHC Scale, see table. Table. Here it is defined as a mental stance that enables the individual to focus on what gives value in life, instead of fighting what can not be changed. What can, and can not be changed is up to each and every one to come to terms with.
