2 Caddo Lived in the Piney Woods area of the Coastal Plain region They were gatherers Lived in beehive-shaped houses Ate food they farmed Made pottery and traded it for foods they could not grow Texas name comes from a Caddo word that means “friend.”

3 Jumano Lived near the Rio Grande in the Mountains and Basins region They were gatherers Lived in adobe houses Ate dry corn, squash, beans, and meats Traded their foods for other goods they needed Jumano villages had their own leader and government

4 Karankawa Lived along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in the Coastal Plain region They were nomads Moved their houses from place to place Caught fish and shellfish for food Traveled in dugout canoes

5 Coahuiltecan Lived along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in the Coastal Plain region They were nomads Shared a common language Adapted well to the land Knowing every detail of the land enabled them to survive.

6 Comanche Lived in the Great Plains and Central Plains regions They were nomads Lived in tepees Hunted buffalo for food Traded supplies they got from buffalo for things they needed Today about 10,000 Comanche live throughout the United States
