Our staff has worked diligently over the past ten years to bring more emphasis to financial education through professional development. You will note there is a good balance across all three curriculum areas. Local schools make the decision about where, based on resources, financial education is offered.

The survey does not reflect data from all schools. Social Studies, Business and FCS teachers attending fall workshops were asked to complete the survey. We know that this survey in not inclusive of all schools that have this graduation requirement and some schools may have used a different title (i.e. Omaha- Introduction to Economics).

The Nebraska Council on Economic Education for many years has provided excellent support for all of our teachers as noted on page 5 with their many activities. Their focus is on making sure teachers are prepared to teach economic education in grades K-12. The Council had contact with over 2000 educators over the last three years. FutureForce Nebraska is a collaboration of key partners working to develop career pathways that help students realize employment opportunities in Nebraska. Considerable time is devoted to increased alignment between secondary and postsecondary programs. A task force is beginning to work on the Finance Career Cluster which was selected by FutureForce because of projected employment needs. Another strong supporter of teachers and students is the Federal Reserve Bank. Staff in the Omaha branch provide excellent free resources and student academic competitions.
