2 Ambition in Action www.sit.nsw.edu.au Training Package Design is Changing /Stakeholder concern regarding the size of Training Packages /Repetitive difficult to understand not in plain English /Not always accessible or relevant /Not flexible enough /Too generic and ambiguous

3 Ambition in Action www.sit.nsw.edu.au Areas of reform 1.Definition of competency & knowledge -“… consistent application of knowledge and skill to the standard of performance required in the workplace. It embodies the ability to transfer and apply skills and knowledge to new situations and environments.”Definition of competency & knowledge 2.Flexibility – increased flexibility - 1/3 or more electives without increasing size qualification, up to 1/6 electives can come from other training packages or ACFlexibility

7 Ambition in Action www.sit.nsw.edu.au New design model training packages /Streamlines Training Package information /Strips out unnecessary detail /Segments content into several categories /Separates performance standards and knowledge requirements from supporting information /Requires concise descriptions and plain language

8 Ambition in Action www.sit.nsw.edu.au Most significant change Separation of content into: 1.PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS – that includes core Training Package information and is endorsed by the NQC 2.COMPANION VOLUME – that includes quality assured non endorsed supporting information to guide implementation
