MISSION The University Writing ProgramFirst-year Writing (FYW) and the Writing Resources Center (WRC) constitutes a free-standing academic program of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, comprised of pedagogical and research activities related to the development of writing ability as well as to disciplinary inquiry in the fields of rhetoric and composition.First-year Writing (FYW)Writing Resources Center (WRC)

Goals of WRC The WRC provides one-to-one writing instruction to students, faculty, and staff from first-year to graduate in any discipline. Our goal is not to fix papers, but to develop better writers.

Staffed by undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of disciplines, the WRC offers teaching experience and leadership opportunities to tutors, many of them future educators, as they develop their own writing abilities and interpersonal skills. The WRC encourages long-term relationships with tutors, students, and faculty in order to promote a community of effective writing strategies and practices.

Faculty Resources Faculty, please feel free to use this blurb on your syllabus: The Writing Resources Center (WRC) is a free tutoring service available to all students and can help you at any stage of your writing process—from invention to final polishing—for any academic, professional, or personal writing. For academic writing, always bring your professor’s assignment materials (instructions, rubric, etc.) to help you and the tutor understand the assignment You can make appointments at https://uncc.mywconline.com/, or stop by any WRC location for a walk-in at the top of the hour. For locations, operating hours, and information about online tutoring, visit http://writing.uncc.edu/writing-resources-center.https://uncc.mywconline.com/http://writing.uncc.edu/writing-resources-center

Student Referral Faculty and staff may refer students to the WRC for additional writing support outside the classroom. When available, a referral allows a student to have a weekly appointment on the same day, at the same time, with the same Writing Assistant, for the remainder of the semester.

How to Refer a Student Instructions for Faculty/Staff: Together with the student, print out and complete the Student Referral form.
