WOODS CROSS HIGH POLICIES Woods Cross has a tradition of excellence and school safety. We will review a few of the school policies but the policy booklet is available for reference. The policy manual is also on the school website under “Student Links” then “Policies and Procedures.”

ATTENDANCE POLICY, PP. 6-7 Student guests are not permitted at WXHS during the school day. Student participants must attend all scheduled classes on the day of an activity or game unless school excused. Students failing to check out through the attendance office may be considered truant.

ATTENDANCE CONTINUED, P. 6-7 The Attendance Office must be notified of a student’s absence within three days of the student’s return to school either by a telephone call (801)402-4506, or a note signed by a parent or guardian.

MAKE-UP WORK, PP. 6-7 If a student is out of school more than two days because of illness, homework should be requested through the main office. Take a few minutes and review the attendance policy in the policy booklet (pp. 6-7)

CITIZENSHIP CREDITS, P. 8 Citizenship credit is generally awarded unless the student accrues three (3) unexcused absences or four (4) tardies (per class, per term) or exhibits serious negative behavior. Some teachers have policies which differ. Teachers will state their citizenship policy in their class disclosures. Teachers are encouraged to give sufficient warning before students receive a “U” and may provide make- up opportunities within their own classrooms before these appear on the report card.

MAKING UP CITIZENSHIP CREDIT, P. 8 When students are in danger of losing citizenship credit, they should work with the teacher issuing the U. Interventions during the term can often prevent a U. When a U is given, teachers and students should arrange to make-up the specific credit. If students are unable to work with the teacher issuing the U, the following options are available, but require a fee of $5 per U:

CITIZENSHIP MAKE-UP OPTIONS, P. 8 Raise a term’s grade point by.5 over the previous term’s grade point. If grades are raised by 1.0, two “U’s” will be taken off. Perfect attendance the following term in the same class the U was given.

CITIZENSHIP CONTINUED, P. 8 Making up credits can clear a “U” if students provide a transcript or proof of completion. A fine will be assessed unless there was a cost for make-up credits. Citizenship make-up classes will be offered after school. Each class will run for 2 hours. See main office for details.

CITIZENSHIP MAKE-UP, P. 8 Two hours of pre-approved service at Woods Cross High, Davis County School District, or Woods Cross City. Service must be done after the U is issued. Approval is required through main office prior to beginning.

DRESS CODE, P. 12-13 Students are expected to comply with the guidelines for school dress and appearance during school hours and at school-sponsored activities. We would rather not send students home for dress code violations, but will when needed. Please review pp. 12-13 of the handbook.

PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION, P. 13 Woods Cross High School is considered a public place where standards of common decency are expected. Kissing, inappropriate touching, and sitting or lying in each other’s laps are not permitted.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES, PP. 13-14 Electronic devices should not be used during class unless the teacher gives permission. Cell phone and camera use are banned at all times from locker rooms and rest rooms. Review pp. 13-14 for other guidelines.

PARKING AND LOCKERS, P. 16 Two students are assigned to each locker. Lockers should be locked at all times, and combinations should not be given to friends, Money or other valuable property should not be left in lockers. Only seniors and juniors, who have no citizenship U’s or unpaid parking tickets, may purchase a parking decal. Passes are not transferable.

SAFE AND ORDERLY, PP. 18-19 Students may be suspended, transferred to an alternative placement, expelled, referred for police investigation, and/or prosecuted for committing serious violations at school. Review the Safe and Orderly Schools Policy on pp. 18-19. Review the sections on “Search and Seizure” and “Skateboards” on p. 20.
