2. Vocabulary Revolution: a war fought to overthrow a government
Protest: to speak out against something
Loyalist: a person who wanted British rule
Patriot: someone who wanted independence from Britain

3. Vocabulary Continued
Bill: Not a name, a duck beak, or a check! A bill is a law that has been suggested or even passed.
Delegate (Representative): someone who is chosen to speak for others

4. Important Documents (In order of Appearance)
The Declaration of Independence: A document formed to declare America’s independence from Britain
The Constitution: A document that set up a plan to run the country
…but it wasn’t perfect to they added The Bill of Rights: A document that explains the rights that everyone has

5. Timeline
Colonists are forced to pay taxes to support a war between Britain and France
Colonists are forced to start paying taxes on goods like sugar, molasses, glass and… tea!
This makes them mad so they protest (example: Boston Tea Party)
The colonies send representatives to a big meeting called the First Continental Congress – they talk about boycotting British goods and forming militias to protect themselves
The Battles of Lexington and Concord kick off the American Revolution – war has begun (1775)!
The Second Continental Congress meeting is to talk about starting an official army with George Washington as the leader
The Declaration of Independence is created and signed (July 1776)
American Revolution ends in 1783 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris – America wins their independence
The Constitution is created in 1787 and approved (given the OK) one year later in 1788
The Bill of Rights is approved in 1791 to clearly say what rights people have
