1 Alphabet Arch Power Point Slide Show Slides 1 and 2 are mainly for printing and using at a table/desk (unless you are fortunate enough to have a Promethean board and it can be projected and used in that format). Slide 1 has the outlined letters that can be colored in by the students. Slide 2 has two sets of lower case letters than can be cut out and used to place with the upper case ‘parent’ letters. I usually alternate placing the lower case letters below and then above the capital letters in the color groups (red letters below, orange letter above, yellow letters below, etc). This works better for space, but also adds another visual to distinguish the letter groups. If they are laminated, students can write the lower case letters with erasable markers. This activity is enhanced if you have all six colors available. If they struggle with writing (letter formation), first have them place the cut out lower case letters above the capital letters. Then those lower case letters would provide support for close range copying/writing the lower case letters below the capital letters. Slides 3, 4, 5, 6 are designed for interactive use at a computer (again, unless you have a Promethean and it can be used in that format). Click on a lower case letter and slide it to the corresponding upper case letter. They are in progressively more challenging order (or can be considered as differentiation in instruction). Slide 3 has the lower case letters in matching colors and in a-b-c order. Slide 4 has the lower case letters in a-b-c order but are all black. Slide 5 has the lower case letters in matching colors but are in random order. Slide 6 has the lower case letters in random order and are all black. Slide 7 can be printed out and the letters can be cut to use as manipulatives – color coded set is easier than the black letters. Extension ideas: Include letter/sound association by asking the student(s) to match the lower case letter to the capital letter that says ___. Have 26 pictures ready with the beginning sound for each letter (perhaps the ones that are used with the phonics program your school uses in the classroom) and show them while asking to match the lower case letter to the capital letter that is the first sound in each picture. Present the pictures in a-b-c order or random order. Use 26 pictures that are different from the ones used in the classroom.
