In the 5th century BC, in Celtic ( 凯尔特人的 ) Ireland, summer officially ended on October 31. A holiday was called Samhain, the Celtic New year, was held this day. One story says that, on that day, the spirits of all those who had died throughout the last year would come back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year.

3 Custom of Halloween The custom of Halloween was brought to America in the 1840s by Irish immigrants ( 移民 ). The custom of trick or treat is thought to have come from not the Irish Celts, but from a ninth-century European custom called souling. On November 2, All Souls’ Day, early Christians would walk from village to village begging for “soul cakes”.

Then two legs dropped to the hearth and attached themselves to the feet. Then a body tumbled down, then two arms, and a man's head. As the old woman watched, the parts came together into a great, tall man. The man danced around and around the room. Faster and faster he went. Then he stopped, and he looked into her eyes. "What do you come for? she asked in a small voice that shivered and shook. "What do I come for?" he said. "I come for YOU!" The narrator shouts and jumps at the person near him! Scary Stories
