2  Using sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, feelings to describe something in more detail.  Ex. My father lies blue and ice cold beneath his snow white sheets. His hands are the rough texture of sandpaper. The frosted winter is harsh.

3  Using sounds as words; “pow” “zoom” “crunch” “weeeeee” “buzz” “boom”  Ex. The swamp frogs croaked in unison  Ex. The flag flapped in wind  Ex. The sheep went, “ Baa.”

4  Definition: says that one thing is another different thing. The simplest form of metaphor is: "The [first thing] is a [second thing].”  Ex. Her home was a prison  Ex. George is a sheep
