3 Objectives To create awareness about HIV/AIDS, knowledge of its modes of transmission and means of prevention among the people of the targeted areas to enable people to make informed, responsible and meaningful behavior and life-style changes to protect them from HIV infection and transmission and to reduce stigma and discrimination. Effectively address issues related to stigma, discrimination, gender, equity, human rights and to particularly empower vulnerable population. Information about programs and services as provided at the Integrated Counseling and Testing Centers (I.C.T.C.) will also be integral part of the awareness generating programs. All program staff and those responsible for the effective implementation of the program will be sensitized, trained and mobilized to create awareness among tribal people. An intensive Information, Education and Communication (IEC) program will be launched to raise awareness among the people and to create a supportive and positive environment for treatment, care and support for the people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Traditional, folk and multi-media methods will be creatively used. 4 Integrated Counseling and Testing Centers (I.C.T.C.) in Jhabua Six tested cases reacted positive!

5 Positive Cases  Prakash S. male, age 28  Rakesh P. male, age 14  Sanjay P. male, age 27  Maya P. female, age 27  Manisha P. female, age 23  Ranjana B. female, age 20 All six of them were infected by sexual transmission. Five of them were discovered in 2007.

6 Testing Rates 2007 Of 450 counseled People, 270 have been tested for HIV.

7 Further Activities May - July 2007 Further Activities May - July 2007 May:  Awareness training for the wardens and inmates of the district jail, Jhabua. district jail, Jhabua.  Awareness training and medical/testing camp in the village of Kakradungra.  HIV-counseling and -treatment training for the counselors of JJHSS in Mumbai.

8 June:  Medical Training regarding AIDS-treatment for Doctors in the governmental Hospital of Jhabua (35 participants).  Awareness program in the I.T.I. (Industrial Training Institution) of Jhabua.  Awareness training for young couples in the governmental Hospital of Jhabua and in the Jeevan Jyoti Hospital of Meghnagar (95 participants).

9 July:  Awareness training for young couples in the Jeevan Jyoti Hospital of Meghnagar (60 participants).  Medical/testing camp in the towns of Udaigar and Thandla.  CD4 testing, treatment and counseling of four HIV positive patients in the Chohitram Hospital in the City of Indore.

10 Basic Information Average age of all tested persons: 32 Tribals among all tested persons: 86% Average number of persons counseled per week (2007): 17 Average number of persons tested per week (2007): 10 Gender of tested persons: females 63% ; males 37%
