3 Background By the end of March 2006 in Vietnam, there had been 106,288 cases HIV infection detected, 17,829 cases had progressed to AIDS, and 10,378 people had died (Vietnam Ministry of Health/ UNAID). 4 Background There are today about 11 million workers in Vietnam. Of the figure, 8,4 million are working in production and business units of all economic sector, 2,6 million are working in State agencies, Party organizations, mass organizations, Public service units… There are today about 11 million workers in Vietnam. 5 Background The concerns of TU have always included the major social issues of the times; Trade Union now have to pay attention looking for Actions against HIV/AIDS in the workplace. And why we don't use our TU role is protection, education and information? And why we don't use our TU role is protection, education and information? VGCL had conduct many training courses for Local TU officers on HIV/AIDS. 9 Immediate Objectives 1. Each of the four target factories will have 30 motivators who can organize 2. The target group (10,000 workers at four factories in one North Province) 3. Expand education system in the remote area. - High intensity: Training peer educators - High intensity: Training peer educators - Medium intensity: Consultation on big groups; facilitated small group - Medium intensity: Consultation on big groups; facilitated small group - Posters, leaflet, video, radio, news paper and TV program - Posters, leaflet, video, radio, news paper and TV program

12 Activities process 1. Need assessment through check-list 2. Selection of motivators in 4 factories (30 motivators each factory: Workers, TU officer, Clinic staff, supervisors, employers) 3. Training for Motivators: - Training on first aid, HIV/AIDS: 2 days - Training on first aid, HIV/AIDS: 2 days - Training on team work: 1 day - Training on team work: 1 day - Training on organization: 1 day - Training on organization: 1 day

13 Activities 4. Production of ETC material on HIV/AIDS by VGCL (VCD, leaflet, poster…) 5. Education of the 10,000 workers through direct dialogue, Media, letter box, telephone, TV program, health fair by 120 motivators 6. Sharing meeting
