Description: Tybalt in the Film “Romeo And Juliet” is a character of class and class alone. Tybalt wears mainly black clothing likes suits and western boots, giving us the imagery that he is a type western from some where in Mexico. In the beginning of the film where the Montague Boys are battling with the Capulet Boys, Tybalt is seen as the only one that fights with class and looks like he is a class fighter unlike the other boys who are just shooting theirs guns at random. Also he always contrast to what Romeo and Juliet are Wearing. At the Ball Tybalt is a devil and Romeo is a Night in shinning armour and Juliet is a Angel.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Strengths: He’s a good fighter Very proud Takes his family pride seriously Weaknesses: His anger drives him Arrogant He thinks he's got a big set He finks he's all that

The Changes: As the movie goes along he becomes more aggressive towards Romeo as he finds out that the Montague’s would dare to show up at a Capulet part and then becomes prestigious to kill Romeo. Although when he goes to meet Romeo and challenge him a duel he kills Mercutio who saves Romeo. And after killing him he feels the pain and by the facial expressions of the actor you can tell that he feels guilty and doesn’t want to kill Romeo anymore. This was the major change that occurs that is very noticeable.

Teachings: Tybalt teaches us that: 1.Don’t be up yourself 2.Have pride in your self and for your family. 3.Don’t let hatred drive you. 4.A dominant emotion leads to misfortune. 5.And most importantly love is stronger than hate.

The lighting around Tybalt when he is pictured in the film is dim, this gives the effect that he is a bad man and is not out to do good deeds. the lighting around his gun and shoes when they are in a close up shot is like a spot light so your eye is attracted to the object gun/shoe.

When Tybalt is pictured he is pictured from a low angle to give the effect of him being big The close up on his boots near the start was of great significance because they are obviously not normal and that shows he doesn’t want fit into the community but almost wants to be more powerful than the community, and ultimately for everyone to be scared of him. When he is pictured its always of the intention to create that image

The way in which he is dressed also gives quite a fair impression that he is a bad He often wore black and chains to again make him seem more rebel and strong. Its like Tybalt wanted to be the king of the streets. His shoes and the way he walks makes us want to believe his thinks hes better than everybody else. He always carries a gun and the close up on the gun near the start (I think). the way in which he carries his gun leads us to believe that its not just for show and he has intentions of using it, which he tries to do on Romeo later on in the film but as you know romeo uses his gun to better effect.

Tybalt normally wears black because of what it represents The colours he wears also links back to the image he is trying to create (of him being a bad man who is up to no good). He chooses this because people then associate him with night and criminals wear black so we think of them a little to, which then goes back to rebelling.

Mercutio I think that neither of them hold the power in the relationship and both of them are fighting for the power. I think that both of them don’t really control over each other as Mercutio is not scared of Tybalt and Tybalt is not scared of Mercutio. I think that one thing this relationship helped me understand was that Mercutio is a good friend of Romeo as he always sticks up for Romeo when they are with Tybalt and even took his life trying to protect Romeo.

Romeo At the beginning of the film ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Tybalt dislikes Romeo as he is a Capulet. Romeo does not have anything against Tybalt at the beginning but this all changes. Tybalt kills Mercutio and Romeo’s hatred grows as he was one of his great friends. Romeo ends up killing Tybalt which shows his extreme hate for him. Tybalt holds the power in the relationship, as at first Romeo was the guy of peace and Tybalt would kick him to the ground and Romeo would not fight back. But as the relationship changes in the movie I think that Romeo gains power. When Romeo goes crazy because of Tybalt killing Mercutio, Tybalt holds a gun to his head and Romeo says ‘Either I, or thou or both must go with him’ implying one of them or both will die but Tybalt does not shoot him and then Romeo shot him instead showing Tybalt wasn’t strong enough to do it. This relationship helped me understand the tension between the two family's and that even sometimes they personally have nothing against each other, but they still have a great hate for one another as there parents are in a battle.

Juliet I think that there is not much of a relationship between Tybalt and Juliet as they never talk to each other or think of them in their lives. Tybalt is not protecting Juliet from Romeo, he is actually doing it for the pride of his family and doesn’t have any respect for Juliet and only his family. I don’t think that neither of them hold the power in the relationship as they do not have anything to do with each other. But Tybalt has slight control as he trying to get Romeo not to marry Juliet and if he succeeds in this it would ruin Juliet’s life. This relationship helped me understand the only reason Tybalt is trying to get Romeo not to marry Juliet is because he wants to keep the pride of his family not to protect her.

Verbal Techniques-Heightened sounds In the first scene when the Capulets arrive at the petrol station. Tybalt gets out off his car and stands on his cigarette. The sound of his standing on his cigarette and the spurs on his shoes are heightened to give the effect of a old fashion western. This suggests that there is going to be a shoot out happening, which shows the violence between the to families. The fact that the violence between the two families is introduced to the audience so early in the movie helps me to understand that it is constantly happening

Verbal Techniques-Dialogue
