1 Choosing Your Science Courses You must take at least 2 science credits and one tech, or 3 science credits.

2 Scientific Investigation All science courses develop scientific investigation skills related to both inquiry and research. Possible career opportunities are investigated.

3 Grade 11 Science Courses There are four possible courses you can choose in grade 11 SPH3U1 11 university physics SBI3U1 11 university biology SBI3C1 11 college biology SCH3U1 11 university chemistry

4 11 University Physics Students will study motion, forces, energy and society, waves and sound, electricity and magnetism.

5 Some 11U Physics Activities Building spring launchers Analyzing projectiles Building electromagnets Analyzing sound systems Wonderland field trip

6 11 University Biology Students will study diversity of living things, evolution, genetic processes, structure and function of animals, anatomy growth and function of plants.

7 Some 11U Biology Activities Pig dissection Squid dissection Heart rate and exercise lab Breathing rate lab Nervous system lab VO 2 max lab Zoo field trip

8 11 College Biology Students will study cellular biology, microbiology, genetics, anatomy of mammals and plants in the natural environment.

9 Some 11C Biology Activities Pig dissection Candy molecule lab Enzyme lab Cells lab Bread mould growth lab Osmosis lab

10 11 University Chemistry Students will study matter, chemical trends and chemical bonding, chemical reactions, quantities in chemical reactions, solutions and solubility, gases and atmospheric chemistry.

11 Some 11U Chemistry Activities Chemical reactions and the quantification of matter involved in reactions through lab investigations. Building molecular models. Limiting chemical reaction labs. Neutralization reactions and titrations.

12 Grade 12 Science Courses There are five possible courses you may choose from in grade 12 SPH4C1 12 College Physics SPH4U1 12 University Physics SBI4U1 12 University Biology SCH4C1 12 College Chemistry SCH4U1 12 University Chemistry

13 12 College Physics Students will study motion and its applications, mechanical systems, electricity and magnetism, energy transformations, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Note: students may take this course after grade 10 academic or applied science

14 Some 12C Physics Activities Building simple machines Building electromagnets Analyzing real circuits Building “pressure robots” Energy in roller-coasters and Wonderland field trip

15 12 University Physics Students will study dynamics, energy and momentum, gravitational, electric, and magnetic fields, the wave nature of light, quantum mechanics and special relativity.

16 Some 12U Physics Activities Rocket motion Analyzing 3D Glass and 3D movie technology Analyzing rail-guns and gauss cannons Studying electric motors and generators Wonderland field trip

17 12 University Biology Students will study biochemistry, metabolic processes, molecular genetics, homeostasis, and population dynamics.

18 Some 12U Biology Activities Eye dissection Hearing equilibrium lab Rates of photosynthesis lab Liver enzyme lab Nutrition investigation

19 12 College Chemistry Students will study matter and qualitative analysis, organic chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical calculations, and chemistry in the environment. Note: students may take this course after grade 10 academic or applied science

20 Some 12C Chemistry Activities Labs involving reaction types and quantifying reactions. Organic synthesis labs. Electroplating Case studies linking chemistry to the environment and our lives. Career investigations.

21 12 University Chemistry Students will study organic chemistry, structure and properties of matter, energy changes and rates of reaction, chemical systems and equilibrium, and electrochemistry.

22 Some 12U Chemistry Activities Organic synthesis lab Equilibrium simulations Acids,bases and titrations Electroplating Case studies linking chemistry to the environment and our lives. Career investigations.
