What is a Rock? A rock is a mixture of one or more minerals, glass, and sometimes, organic matter. Three main categories of Rocks: - igneous - metamorphic - sedimentary

The Rock Cycle

What is a Rock Cycle? Recycling the Earth’s material

Lithification Process by which unconsolidated rock-forming materials are converted into consolidated or coherent state. Sediment Sedimentary Rock lithification

Metamorphism A process whereby rocks undergo physical or chemical changes or both to achieve equilibrium with conditions other than those under which they were originally formed Sedimentary Rock Metamorphic Rock metamorphism

Fusion Change of a substance from the solid to the liquid state, usually by the application of heat. Metamorphic Rock Magma fusion

Crystallization Process through which crystals separate from fluid, viscous, or dispersed state. Magma Igneous Rock crystallization

Weathering, Erosion, and Transfer Weathering:Response of materials once in equilibrium within earth's crust to new conditions at or near contact with water, air, or living matter. Erosion: Movement of material from one place to another on Earth's surface. Agents of movement include gravity, water, ice, and wind.

Transfer: to carry across weathering/erosion/transfer Igneous Rock Sediment

Human Impact on Rock Cycle Rock cycle is an Earth interior system. It is rarely influenced by human. Basically the rock cycle is not affected by human impact.
